Identify and tag SSD and local devices

Below I will tag attached local device as SSD , use case , you might have device not identified by ESXi as SSD or for test prupose:

Information you need before you start:

1. Device name:

~ # esxcli storage core device list

2. Plugin Name, there’s many types like:
so you can execute

~ # esxcli storage core plugin registration list -N SATP

So now how to get 1 & 2 to put together in our command:

esxcli storage nmp device list |grep "Device Display Name:|Storage Array Type:|Working Paths:"

Or the below but you will get the device only:

~ # esxcli storage core device list |grep "naa.*|Is SSD|Multipath Plugin:"

Confirming from GUI my target device

~ # esxcli storage nmp satp rule add -s VMW_SATP_LOCAL –device naa.5000c50012d263fb –option=enable_ssd

~ # esxcli storage core claiming unclaim -t device -d naa.5000c50012d263fb

~ # esxcli storage core claimrule load

~ # esxcli storage core claimrule run

~ # esxcli storage core device list -d naa.5000c50012d263fb
