Networker Server , storage , Console & Client Daemons

Networker Daemons:

nsrd:
(network save and recover daemon) is the master daemon. nsrd manages the NetWorker resource database, which contains almost all NetWorker configuration information. It also starts the nsrmmdbd and nsrindexd processes. nsrd is started automatically at system startup. Once started, nsrd starts the other server daemons and one nsrmmd process for each device local to the NetWorker server.

nsrmmdbd:
(network save and recover media management database daemon) provides the read and write service for the media database.

nsrindexd:
(network save and recover index daemon) provides the read and write service for the client file index databases.

nsrjobd:
(network save and recover job daemon) is responsible for coordinating all scheduled backups. It stores information about these operations and provides it to the NetWorker server and the NMC server for reporting purposes.

nsrmmgd:
Manages all library operations. It is started on the NetWorker server by nsrd when the NetWorker services are started or when the first jukebox resource is configured and enabled .In a Windows environment, these processes are started via the NetWorker Backup and Recover Server service.

nsrexecd:
Authenticates and processes the NetWorker server remote execution requests and executes the save and savefs programs on the client.

nsrjobd:
Monitors NetWorker activity during a backup or recovery operation.

nsrlogd:
Provides support for the NetWorker audit log service and is configured to run on the NetWorker server by default.

nsrcpd:

1. Started automatically when there is a request to start up the remote client software installation service (client push).

2. Allows users to distribute and upgrade client software from a centralized software repository across a network.

The nsrmmd daemon:

• Receives backup data (save streams) from NetWorker clients.

• Writes the data to a volume in the backup device it is controlling.

• Can receive data from multiple backups concurrently, organizing the data into a special NetWorker format which supports multiplexing.

• Sends tracking information to the NetWorker server to track data written to the volume.

• Reads data from the volume during operations such as recoveries and cloning.

nsrexecd:
Authenticates and processes the NetWorker server remote execution requests and executes the save and savefs programs on the storage node.

nsrsnmd:

1. Provides an RPC-based service to manage all of the device operations that the nsrmmd process handles on behalf of the nsrd process on the NetWorker server.

2. Ensures that the necessary device operations are actually performed when needed by nsrd.

3. Is automatically invoked by nsrd as required.

4. Only one nsrsnmd service is run on each storage node with configured and enabled devices.

nsrlcpd:

1. Provides a uniform library interface to the NetWorker media management daemon, nsrmmgd.

2. Manages the library subsystem media, slot, drive and port resources providing control to move and access the resources within the library subsystems.

3. One nsrlcpd is started for each configured jukebox.

For each enabled library (jukebox) in a data zone, nsrmmgd on the NetWorker server spawns an nsrlcpd(network save and recover library control daemon) to control the actual jukebox resources, such as media, slots, drives, and access ports. After performing a task, nsrlcpd returns status information to nsrmmgd, which in turn provides it to nsrd.

nsrexecd:
Authenticates and processes the NetWorker server remote execution requests and executes the save and savefs programs on the client.

gstd:
Known as the Generic Services Toolkit (GST), controls other services provided by the Console server.

httpd:
Starts the NMC console on the client through a web browser.

dbsrv12:
A database server that manages information pertaining to console management. For example, Console reports.

gstsnmptrapd:

1- Monitors SNMP Traps on a managed Data Domain system.

2- Provides the ability to report SNMP Trap events in the NMC Events task.

3- Started only when SNMP Trap monitoring is configured for the Data Domain system. Enabling or disabling the Capture Events option provide more information on how to configure SNMP Traps for a NMC managed Data Domain system.

Services and programs on the NetWorker client:

nsrexecd:
Authenticates and processes the NetWorker server remote execution requests and executes the save and savefs programs on the client.

Do not get confused:

Networker Server Daemons:
nsrmmdbd:
(network save and recover media management database daemon) provides the read and write service for the media database.

nsrmmgd:
Manages all library operations. It is started on the NetWorker server by nsrd when the NetWorker services are started or when the first jukebox resource is configured and enabled .In a Windows environment, these processes are started via the NetWorker Backup and Recover Server service.

Storage node Daemons:
nsrmmd:
Thensrmmddaemon is the storage node daemon and is responsible for network save and recover media multiplexing operations
